CNN announces Jim Acosta’s new show

CNN’s new Chief Domestic Correspondent Jim Acosta has been named CNN Newsroom Saturday and Sunday anchor. He will anchor weekends from 3-6pm. Prior to this new role, he covered the White House for CNN for the past seven years, and he served as Chief White House Correspondent since 2018. As previously announced, Pamela Brown now anchors CNN Newsroom on Saturdays and Sundays from 6-9pm, taking over after Acosta. She also serves as Senior Washington correspondent for CNN.

In addition, CNN announced Ana Cabrera will vacate her weekend post and move to weekdays, anchoring Newsroom from 1-2pm. After that, from 2-4pm, Alisyn Camerota and Victor Blackwell will co-anchor Newsroom since Brooke Baldwin announced she is leaving in April. Brianna Keilar will move to New Day with John Berman.

Camerota told CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker, “I would sometimes say to Jeff, you know, it’s kind of hard to do this and get up at 3. And he would basically say, get back in there, and that there was no time to take your foot off the gas. And he was right. So basically, I really wanted to see this through.” But now, Zucker has agreed to move her to afternoons.

Replacing Blackwell on New Day Weekend, Boris Sanchez will join Christi Paul as co-anchor on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Sanchez previously served as a CNN White House correspondent.

CNN promotes Jim Acosta to Chief White House correspondent, shuffles around others

CNN today announced the shuffling of some Washington, D.C.-based correspondents for the network. Primarily, CNN’s senior White House correspondent and constant thorn in the Trump administration’s side, Jim Acosta, has been named Chief White House correspondent for CNN. Acosta has covered the Obama and Trump White Houses for CNN since 2013.

In addition, CNN has promoted fill-in anchor and Justice correspondent Pamela Brown to the White House beat, where she will serve as senior White House correspondent, alongside Jeff Zeleny.

Abby Phillip and Boris Sanchez will continue as White House correspondents alongside White House reporter Kaitlan Collins.

Furthermore, after three years covering Trump, Sara Murray will relocate to the Justice Department beat, principally covering the Russia investigation.

Joe Johns, senior Washington correspondent, is now slated to cover the upcoming midterm elections and national politics.

The new assignments are effective Monday, January 15, CNN said.

CNN correspondents shuffled around

CNN is shuffling around and promoting some of its bureau correspondents, according to TVNewser’s report. Jessica Schneider has been relocated from CNN’s New York bureau to CNN’s Washington bureau and promoted to Justice correspondent. Also in the Washington bureau, Boris Sanchez has landed the weekend White House reporting gig.

Miguel Marquez will leave the New York bureau and head to CNN’s Los Angeles bureau. In the same bureau, Kyung Lah has been promoted from national correspondent to senior national correspondent, based in LA.

Former CNN Newsource correspondent Polo Sandoval, previously based out of the CNN Center, will relocate to New York City and serve as a general assignment correspondent.

And lastly, Rosa Flores will depart Chicago for the Miami bureau.

Dave Briggs debuts on Early Start

CNN’s newest anchor hire, Dave Briggs, made his debut this morning on Early Start, sitting alongside Christine Romans. Previously this week, CNN correspondents Ana Cabrera and Boris Sanchez were filling in before the new morning duo made their debut.

Alisyn Camerota, who formerly hosted Fox’s weekend show with Briggs, tweeted, “Don’t adjust your sets. It’s not 2012 and you’re still watching CNN.”

CNN shuffles reporters around

VP of newsgathering for CNN/US Terence Burke announced a few bureau changes for CNN’s correspondents yesterday, along with the addition of a new correspondent.

Miami correspondent Alina Machado has left CNN. She has been with the network since 2013. In the internal memo, Burke commented on her departure. “I want to thank Alina Machado for her excellent work and her outstanding professionalism during her tenure at CNN. A few weeks ago Alina informed us that she would be leaving CNN at the end of her contract. We wish her all the best in her future pursuits.”

Effective April 11, Boris Sanchez, who joined last June, will be moving to the Miami bureau to fill Machado’s shoes. Sanchez will primarily cover Florida and the Southeast U.S.

Filing Sanchez’s role at the New York City bureau, Jessica Schneider will be joining CNN as a correspondent. Schneider will be joining CNN from WCBS on April 11. She will serve as a general assignment correspondent as well as a contributing correspondent to CNN’s crime and justice team.

New CNN reporter makes anchoring debut

New CNN NY-based correspondent Boris Sanchez, who joined the network earlier this summer, made his anchoring debut this morning on Early Start, sitting in for John Berman.

Rosa Flores leaves CNN NYC

After CNN hired Boris Sanchez to work in the New York bureau, it was announced that correspondent Rosa Flores would be relocating from NYC to Chicago, where she would work with correspondent Ryan Young.

Today, the bureau threw her a going away party:

She is expected to continue reporting in Latin America as the need arises.

Boris Sanchez has joined CNN in New York City as a correspondent, the network announced a short time ago. Sanchez joins from KDVR in Denver, where he served as an anchor/reporter since 2012.

Meanwhile, NYC-based correspondent Rosa Flores will be re-locating to the Chicago bureau later this summer, where she will work closely with new Chicago bureau correspondent Ryan Young. However, although she’s moving to CNN Chicago, VP of newsgathering Terence Burke said she will continue her Latin American enterprise reporting.

I have two exciting correspondent updates to share with you.

We are delighted to announce that Boris Sanchez has joined CNN as a correspondent in our New York Bureau effective immediately.

Boris joins us from KDVR in Denver where he has been an outstanding anchor and reporter since 2012.
Prior to that, he worked at ABC¹s affiliate in Redding, California.

Boris is a graduate of Syracuse University and he calls Miami home.

We are also very pleased to announce that we’re bolstering our Midwest news gathering operation. Rosa Flores will be moving from New York to Chicago later this summer, joining Ryan Young to create a formidable team.

In her time at CNN, Rosa has proven herself to be a terrific field correspondent, always finding unique and compelling angles to her breaking news assignments.

In addition to her domestic reporting, Rosa will continue to cover breaking news and enterprise stories in Latin America and will be reporting on Pope Francis’ travels to South America, Cuba and the U.S. later this year.
