CNN announces Jim Acosta’s new show

CNN’s new Chief Domestic Correspondent Jim Acosta has been named CNN Newsroom Saturday and Sunday anchor. He will anchor weekends from 3-6pm. Prior to this new role, he covered the White House for CNN for the past seven years, and he served as Chief White House Correspondent since 2018. As previously announced, Pamela Brown now anchors CNN Newsroom on Saturdays and Sundays from 6-9pm, taking over after Acosta. She also serves as Senior Washington correspondent for CNN.

In addition, CNN announced Ana Cabrera will vacate her weekend post and move to weekdays, anchoring Newsroom from 1-2pm. After that, from 2-4pm, Alisyn Camerota and Victor Blackwell will co-anchor Newsroom since Brooke Baldwin announced she is leaving in April. Brianna Keilar will move to New Day with John Berman.

Camerota told CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker, “I would sometimes say to Jeff, you know, it’s kind of hard to do this and get up at 3. And he would basically say, get back in there, and that there was no time to take your foot off the gas. And he was right. So basically, I really wanted to see this through.” But now, Zucker has agreed to move her to afternoons.

Replacing Blackwell on New Day Weekend, Boris Sanchez will join Christi Paul as co-anchor on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Sanchez previously served as a CNN White House correspondent.

Victor Blackwell and Ana Cabrera to launch new weekday programs

According to media reporter Dylan Byers in a tweet, CNN afternoons will soon be made up of a new show anchored by Ana Cabrera, and a new show anchored by a duo of Victor Blackwell and Alisyn Camerota, who will replace Brooke Baldwin, who announced was leaving CNN.

Camerota is reportedly leaving New Day and will join Blackwell, who anchors the weekend version of New Day, in the afternoons. Afternoon anchor Brianna Keilar is set to move to New Day. At the time, it was reported Camerota herself wanted the move, saying she has “for some time sought a new position, citing the demands of early-morning TV.”

No word on who will replace Blackwell on New Day Weekend or Cabrera on CNN Newsroom Weekend.

Brianna Keilar moves to New Day; Alisyn Camerota to afternoons: report

CNN is considering shaking up New Day, moving Alisyn Camerota off of New Day. Camerota joined CNN from Fox in July 2014 and officially joined New Day in early 2015. Later, John Berman joined her at the desk.

But now, citing three sources, NBC media reporter Dylan Byers says Brianna Keilar, CNN’s afternoon rising star, will be joining the morning program to help try to improve its low ratings. In January, however, New Day ranked 2nd in the demographic. Byers notes that “Zucker, who was the king of mornings at NBCUniversal, is still struggling to crack the code on mornings at CNN.”

Camerota, per Byers, will be moving to afternoons. Variety reports Camerota herself wanted the move, saying she has “for some time sought a new position, citing the demands of early-morning TV.”

After 5 months apart, Berman and Camerota are back in studio together

4DP70n_0Wfl6i1600After nearly 5 months apart due to the pandemic, both in work from home sets or in flash studios, New Day anchors John Berman and Alisyn Camerota reunited back in their studio — six feet apart. “You and I are six feet apart. We’ve measured. So I hope this can last,” Camerota noted on Monday’s broadcast.

“In the same actual room at the same actual time for the first time since March…” Berman said gleefully at the top of the show.

Camerota returned the humor, noting she “barely recognize[d]” Berman.

In accepting Fred Dressler Leadership Award Award, CNN chief Jeff Zucker says “The truth is under assault; We are certainly not the enemy of the people.”

Thursday in New York, WarnerMedia news chairman Jeff Zucker was honored with the Fred Dressler Leadership Award at the annual Mirror Awards ceremony, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Some of Zucker’s talent put together a tribute video, honoring their CNN boss.

“I said to him one time, ‘You are the only boss I’ve had who is ballsier than I am,’ and I really meant it,” The Lead anchor and Chief Washington correspondent Jake Tapper said of Zucker.

Chris Cuomo agreed: “He completely changed CNN.” He also ribbed him, saying, “One of his best skills is the ability to not seem as short as he actually is.”

Nodding to Zucker’s past comments about maybe seeking political office, Discovery CEO David Zaslav said, “The more awards he can get before his mayoral campaign, the better.”

“I’ve had this most blessed career, but none of it compares to the work we are doing right now at CNN,” Zucker said. “Sadly, the truth is under assault,” he said. “The press is under attack from the most powerful people in the world, and that is wrong and it is dangerous. These are the times that call for leadership. I am proud to stand up for the truth, I am proud to stand up for the free press. We are certainly not the enemy of the people.”

Zucker also apparently stepped in it when talking to New Day host Alisyn Camerota, who emceed the event. “I was gonna say that I love waking up WITH YOU every morning, but I want to say that I love waking up TO YOU every morning.” THR’s Jeremy Barr reports there were groans in the room when he made that remark.

Chris Cuomo signs off New Day

CNN’s morning anchor Chris Cuomo has signed off of the program. Effective June 4, he will be at CNN’s primetime slot at 9:00pm, hosting Cuomo Prime Time.

John Berman will take over the reins as Alisyn Camerota’s co-anchor, and CNN’s John Avlon is joining as a regular presence on the show.

Chris Cuomo returns to primetime June 4

Cuomo Primetime returns for good on Monday, June 4 at 9:00pm, show host Chris Cuomo revealed today on Twitter. “Just heard yesterday! JUNE 4,” he said.

The show “will feature Cuomo’s signature in-depth one-on-one interviews that test politicians and newsmakers on their positions, as well as analyses of news of the day and the latest breaking news,” according to CNN.

Cuomo added, “Absolutely love New Day team and mandate and what we have built…but prime is the arena for accountability and that’s where the partisan divide is really fomented. Great chance to cut through, test, and do some different things.”

The network has confirmed John Berman will take over New Day with Alisyn Camerota.

John Avlon in the New Day anchor chair?

Soon, Chris Cuomo will be leaving New Day and going to primetime with his new show, Cuomo Primetime. John Berman has been named his replacement on the morning show.

But on both Monday and Tuesday, with Cuomo off and Jim Sciutto filling in, there was a third anchor, seated off to the side, and not front and center — CNN political analyst and Daily Beast editor-in-chief John Avlon, a frequent New Day commentator.

Avlon recently sat in for Kate Bolduan on CNN International’s State of America.

And now, he’s sitting as a third New Day host?
