Gov. Cuomo refuses to come on State of the Union with Jake Tapper

CNN anchor Jake Tapper said on Sunday’s State of the Union program that he has requested an interview with embattled New York Governor Andrew Cuomo dozens of times over the past year, in addition to this week — all of which the Governor has refused.

Janice Dean, a Fox News meteorologist whose in-laws died as a result of Gov. Cuomo’s executive order, praised Tapper. “While it’s easy to get angry at other networks for not taking [Cuomo] to task early on during the nursing home tragedy, there are some that DID report on his deadly executive order and his incredible arrogance. [Tapper] is one of them.”

Dean added, “While I cannot say the same for many of his other colleagues, [Tapper] has reported fairly and without fear or fluff when it comes to covering [Cuomo].”

The Cuomo administration withheld the information from state lawmakers over the summer because it was worried federal prosecutors would “use it against us,” according to a top aide for Gov. Cuomo, the New York Post reported this week.

As I repeatedly documented at the time, Gov. Cuomo preferred the safe space on CNN — his brother Chris Cuomo’s nightly program, Cuomo Prime Time.

Chris Cuomo concludes interview by noting he can’t keep having his brother on his show

jygfoizmkfc6fphdvv3awkgmcyIn the conclusion to a bizarre segment, Chris Cuomo admitted a few things while chatting it up with his brother, Gov. Andrew Cuomo: one, that he couldn’t continue interviewing his brother on Cuomo Prime Time much longer, and two, that he couldn’t be objective.

“Me having you on the show is an unusual thing,” Cuomo noted. “I won’t always be able to keep having you on the show, it’ll never be seen as fair in people’s eyes, we both get that, and that’s okay. You’ve got plenty of people to talk to.”

“Not everyone likes you, not everyone likes me,” he acknowledged. “I’m wowed by what you did, but more importantly, I’m wowed by how you did it . . . Obviously, I’ll never be objective, obviously I think you’re the best politician in the country.”

In March, CNN president Jeff Zucker lifted the ban on Cuomo interviewing Gov. Cuomo on his show, citing the “authenticity and relatability and vulnerability” brought by the duo. That decision was almost immediately widely-criticized.

Chris Cuomo continues to waste CNN viewers’ time with obnoxious segments with Gov. Cuomo

For almost two months now, CNN has allowed Chris Cuomo to commit journalistic malpractice by bringing on his older brother, Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY), and the network shows no sign of stopping this obnoxious display.

At the beginning, perhaps CNN could make the excuse it was relevant to humanize both the Prime Time host and for Gov. Cuomo to provide updates on his battles with coronavirus in the state of New York. However, as I long advocated, any CNN reporter/anchor could have interviewed Gov. Cuomo and aired it on Cuomo Prime Time — just not his younger brother.

As I wrote just last week, “’Big Brother, good to see you.’ Can someone on Chris and Andrew Cuomo’s staff book time for them to see each other . . . outside of TV?”

Presented without further comment, a portion of last night’s broadcast, with the CNN anchor holding a swab:

“Big Brother, good to see you,” is the typical line CNN anchor Chris Cuomo uses to welcome Gov. Andrew Cuomo to Cuomo Prime Time. The Wednesday, May 13 edition was no exception, and the segment lasted nearly twenty minutes (which is roughly how long most of the interviews, if you want to call it that, last).

Like most of America, I understand that both Cuomos are probably fairly busy people. The younger Cuomo hosts his CNN primetime show and has an afternoon SiriusXM show. The older Cuomo, of course, is the governor of New York.

However, can a booker on Cuomo’s team and an aide on the older Cuomo’s team schedule time for them to catch up — you know, off-air?

It was reported that CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker “greenlighted” younger Cuomo interviewing Gov. Cuomo beginning in early April. Prior to that, Zucker banned the CNN anchor from interviewing his governor brother in 2013. Explaining his decision to lift the ban, he said at the time, “You get trust from authenticity and relatability and vulnerability. That’s what the brothers Cuomo are giving us right now.”

And maybe in early April, that was the case. But now? No, now they’re just giving us annoying, brotherly barbs.

Cuomo reveals his wife, Cristina Cuomo, has tested positive for coronavirus

On Cuomo Prime Time, host Chris Cuomo revealed while chatting with his brother, Gov. Andrew Cuomo, that his wife, Cristina Cuomo, has now tested positive for coronavirus.

“Cristina now has Covid. She is now positive. It just breaks my heart. It is the one thing I was hoping wouldn’t happen, and now it has,” he said.

Cuomo originally tested positive on March 31. He announced yesterday on his show that he was feeling better, but he was still running a slight fever.

Trump asks Gov. Cuomo about how Chris Cuomo is doing

Appearing on The Howard Stern Show this Monday morning, Gov. Andrew Cuomo was discussing about his coronavirus response, and the topic eventually turned to the governor’s brother, CNN anchor Chris Cuoomo. Cuomo tested positive on March 31 for the coronavirus, and he has anchored his show from his basement.

“[President Trump] has a confrontational relationship with my brother he would say, ‘Chris on CNN attacks him’ and ‘CNN always attacks him,’ and he has personally attacked my brother, partially because of me, I think, and partially because of my brother’s reporting. So that is what it is,” the governor explained to Stern.

However, “The president always makes a point of saying to me: ‘How is Chris? Is he doing OK?’ And that’s not in his usual character, you know? We’re not chit-chatty when we’re on the phone, but he always makes a point to say that about Chris and always remember my mother,” Gov. Cuomo noted.

CNN lifts the ban on Chris Cuomo interviewing his brother in favor of “authenticity and relatability”

I, like many, have criticized and long observed on the instances where, at the launch of New Day, anchor Chris Cuomo would interview the New York governor — his brother, Andrew Cuomo.

But as the New York Times reports, word came from up high that Cuomo was to no longer interview his brother in 2013; instead, co-anchors would conduct the interview, as warranted.

But that all changed on March 11 when CNN execs “greenlighted” Cuomo interviewing the elder Cuomo, NYT reports.

Cuomo acknowledged the obvious conflict of interest. “There will come a time when there’s an accountability measure where it will no longer make sense for it to be me” interviewing the governor, he said.

However, since his coronavirus announcement, his ratings on Cuomo Prime Time have nearly tripled.

After all, last week, Cuomo appeared at his brother’s coronavirus press conference via video conferencing to discuss his symptoms and update the public.

CNN president Jeff Zucker told the Times, “You get trust from authenticity and relatability and vulnerability. That’s what the brothers Cuomo are giving us right now.”

Gov. Cuomo invites brother, anchor Chris Cuomo to his coronavirus presser

Governor Andrew Cuomo, while conducting his daily coronavirus press conference, invited on his brother, Chris Cuomo, host of CNN’s Cuomo Prime Time. Cuomo provided an update on how he was feeling, and said, “I can barely keep it together and I have everything done for me. I am very lucky.”

He said soberly, “That night, I got hit with the fever and those rigors… It was like it was out of a movie. I tell ya, I had the hallucination I was seeing Pop,” referencing their father, former Gov. Mario Cuomo.

Not for nothing, Cuomo had on a Prime Time hat, giving his show a bit of a plug across all networks — MSNBC and Fox, among others.
